2019 Tentative Family Activities

The NACAT family activities will keep everyone entertained and feature some of Alberta’s premium tourist attractions. Here is what you have to look forward to July 15 – 18:

Monday, July 15, 2019 

Explore Calgary’s lively downtown and take in some of our infamous cultural landmarks. Guests can pick from a number of activities or explore on their own. You can check out:

  • Studio Bell: Home of the National Music Centre: Explore five floors of interactive exhibitions that will take you on a journey of the sights, sounds and stories of music in Canada. 
  • Calgary Tower: Experience a spectacular 360 degree view of the foothills and majestic Rocky Mountains from the Calgary Tower. 
  • The Glenbow Museum: For over 50 years, the Glenbow has been a cultural cornerstone in Calgary. Make remarkable connections between art, culture and the world around us. 
  • The Devonian Gardens: known as Calgary’s urban oasis, the Devonian Gardens are in the heart of Calgary’s Downtown in the CORE Shopping Centre. With one hector of botanical gardens including over 500 trees, 50 varieties of plants, fountains, fish pounds and a playground. 

If you want to stay on SAIT’s Main Campus, we will have a Valve Cover Build for kids in our automotive bay. 

Tuesday, July 16, 2019 

Get prehistoric in Drumheller with an exploration of Alberta’s hot-spot for all things dinosaurs. Guests will be taken by a coach bus and will be able to explore:

  • Royal Tyrrell Museum: Discover Canada’s only museum dedicated exclusively to the science of paleontology. In addition to housing one of the world’s largest displays of dinosaurs, the Museum offers a wide variety of creative, fun and educational programs that bring the prehistoric past to life. 
  • Drumheller Hoodoos: The hoodoos take millions of years to form and stand 5 to 7 meters tall. Explore the badlands and stand amongst the hoodoos. 

If you want to stay on SAIT’s Main Campus, we will have a Valve Cover Build for kids in our automotive bay. 

Wednesday, July 17, 2019

Discover the Canadian Rocky Mountains with a trip to Banff. Guests will travel by coach to the most awe-inspiring mountain destination Canada has to offer. While there you can:

  • Canadian Rockies Hot Spring: Enjoy the soothing waters of the Banff Upper Hot Springs. Sit back and relax in the naturally heated pool, surrounded by mountain views. 
  • Banff Gondola: On the shoulder of Sulphur Mountain and in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, the Banff Gondola allows for a 360 degree view of the six scenic mountain rages and the Bow Valley. 

Thursday, July 18, 2019

Spark adventure with Calgary’s top family-centric tourist locations. Guests will choose from:

  • Calaway Park: with 32 family-friendly rides, Calaway Park is Western Canada’s largest outdoor family amusement park. You will enjoy unlimited rides and street performers including stilt walkers, jugglers and clowns! 
  • Calgary Zoo: Travel through the Canadian Wilds, Conservatory Gardens, Destination Africa, Penguin Plunge, Panda Passage, Eurasia, Land of Lemurs and the Prehistoric Park. The Calgary Zoo has a days’ worth of fun for the whole family. 
  • Telus Spark Centre: Neurons are firing daily as families explore and discover science, technology, engineering, art and math. You will have an interactive experience.

After a day of adventure, attend the NACAT Conference Banquet at the Heritage Park’s Gasoline Alley Museum. Enjoy wonderful food amongst automotive history. 

Coming to Calgary before the conference? Get your cowboy boots ready for the Calgary Stampede! This ten-day event is the greatest outdoor show in the world. Entertaining thousands of visitors every year, the Calgary Stampede has concerts, fun foods, rides and the infamous Grandstand Show to entertain you. Get your tickets and explore the grounds.  

 

*144 sessions is our goal. More or less may occur based upon the training facility. An attendee will always have the opportunity to earn 20 hours of Technical Update Training at the NACAT Conference.
